LG L60 With 4.3-Inch Display and Android 4.4 Listed on Company's Site


A few days after launching its LG G3 A, the Korean handset maker has listed the new budget L60 smartphone on its Russia website. The smartphone has been listed with specifications but with no availability and pricing details as of yet.
As per the listing, the LG L60 X145 is a dual-SIM device and is powered by the comparatively new Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It is powered by a dual-core processor (unspecified) clocked at 1.3GHz, coupled with 512MB of RAM.
LG's budget offering features a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x854 pixels) TFT display with a pixel density of 217ppi. It also sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash alongside a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The LG L60 includes 4GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB).
The L60 packs a 1540mAh battery rated to deliver up to 5.2 hours of talk time and 264 hours of standby time. It also comes with GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Micro-USB connectivity options. The LG L60 smartphone measures 66.3x124.15x11.8mm, weighs 119 grams and comes in Black and White colour variants. The listing was first reported by Fonearena.



It is worth noting that other variants of the LG L60 were also spotted earlier this month on Wi-Fi Alliance website (via My LG). The variants spotted were LG-X132, LG-X145, LG-X135, LG-X137, LG-X130j, and LG-X147. It is assumed that all of the variants are the same model but with different model numbers according to the region and the network carriers.
An anticipated handset from LG is the G3 Stylus, a stylus-bearing phablet device that was recently spotted in a LG G3 Beat promo video. Reports hint the smartphone will arrive in Q3 this year, and with mid-tier specifications that won't see it compete with the Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to be launched on September 3: Report

Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy Note 4 in Berlin on September 3, the Korea Times said. Samsung hopes the Galaxy Note 4 will counter Apple's new iPhone 6 which is also due for launch in September.
"Samsung will hold an event in Berlin to announce the Note 4 on September 3," a company executive was quoted as saying.
If rumours are to be believed, the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 will come with an ultraviolet sensor to measure UV radiation and consequently alert users about possible precautions they should take.

The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to come with a screen size bigger than the Galaxy S5 and could sport a 2K resolution display. The Galaxy Note 4 is speculated to come engineered with an octa-core Exynos CPU or a Snapdragon 800-series SoC, 4GB of RAM, and a 20.1 megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation.
The South Korean company hopes that the Note 4 will help it get a fresh momentum to lift its handset business at a time when the company is being threatened by the rise of Chinese budget handset manufacturers.

Oplus XonPhone 5 With Android 4.4.2 KitKat Launched at Rs. 7,999



Oplus has launched the XonPhone 5 smartphone in India at Rs. 7,999. The smartphone will be exclusively available onSnapdeal starting Thursday. Oplus India, a subsidiary of Oplus Taiwan, had launched the XonPad 7 tablet in January.

The Oplus XonPhone 5 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box. It offers dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) support, with one Micro-SIM one regular-SIM card slot. It features a 5-inch IPS display with HD (720x1280 pixels) resolution, translating to a pixel density of 320ppi.

A quad-core MediaTek (MT6582) processor powers the smartphone, clocked at 1.3GHz, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The XonPhone 5 sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a 2-megapixel front-facing camera also onboard.

It comes with 16GB inbuilt storage, and can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. The XonPhone 5 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, AGPS, EDGE, GPRS and 3G connectivity options. It is backed by a 2000mAh battery with no word on talk time and standby time.

The XonPhone 5 measures 143x71.5x7.8mm and weighs 170 grams. The smartphone is currently listed as available in Gold, Grey and Sliver colours.

Commenting on the launch, Soumitra Gupta, CEO, Oplus, said, "We are extremely elated to be launching the XonPhone 5, an innovative smartphone with ultimate features ensuring a unique user experience. Our association with India's largest marketplace, Snapdeal.com has yielded us great results for our tablet and we are affirmative that our smartphone will also witness great acceptance from the users.

'Apple' of China, Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone sold out in 39 mins on FlipKart

Xiaomi, one of the leading mobile Internet companies in China, which forayed into India market on July 15th today announced that its entire Mi 3 stock was sold out in 38 minutes and 50 seconds onFlipKart.
Registrations to purchase the device were open till July 21st and saw over 100,000 fans registered to buy the Mi 3.
Commenting on the sales, Manu Jain, India Operations Head, Xiaomi, said, “We are pleasantly surprised and delighted with the overwhelming response we have received from our India fans. We would like to apologize to our fans who couldn’t purchase the Mi 3 today. We are responding immediately to the commitment shown to us by our customers by focussing on the following – we are working with Flipkart to ensure the experience of purchase is improved further and technical issues are resolved."
"We know some of our fans must be disappointed. We want to make it up to them. Hence for the next sale on July 29th only, we will ensure that customers who missed out on today’s sale are automatically registered to buy a Mi 3 on 29th.

On the sidelines, Michael Adnani, VP-Retail and Head- Brand Alliances, Flipkart said, "It is very encouraging to see the scale of response towards Xiaomi Mi3 that is exclusively available on Flipkart. We were confident of the success of Mi3 in India."
"It has done extremely well internationally and we naturally wanted to be able to bring this world-class device to our customers in India. We are working with Xiaomi to ensure that the purchase experience lives up to our Flipkart promise of excellence", he further says.

Official TWRP Recovery Now Available For The LG Optimus 4X HD, Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 LTE, And Xiaomi Redmi 1S


Rooters and ROM flashers of several devices have new options today, as the developers behind the popular Team WIN Recovery Project have added three new Android devices to their growing list. The somewhat dusty LG Optimus 4X HD (from when phone names were crazy long), the LTE version of Samsung's Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (because Samsung never really got over the crazy long name thing), and the Xiaomi Redmi 1S all get access to the touch-based recovery software, with downloads available from the website.


The Optimus 4X HD is probably the most widely-used device of the lot, despite being released over two years ago. It was the top of the line back in 2013, and probably has more than a few owners still happily playing with it. The XDA portal has more than 100 posts in the ROM section, so the powerful TWRP will surely be a boon. You can find it under the P880 page. Xiaomi's Redmi 1S is a much more recent device (with similar specs, in fact), but it's only available in China running Xiaomi's semi-forked MIUI operating system. It's labeled as Armani on the TWRP page.
The WiFi version of the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 already has a build of TWRP available; now the Qualcomm-powered international version has one too. It's filed under "viennaltexx." Take note (ha): this recovery probably isn't safe to try on carrier versions available in the United States, thanks to their frustrating policy of locked bootloaders.

Google Glass takes wicked road show to Boston July 26


There are only a few places in the world where you can try out Google Glass in person without having to plunk down $1500 to own one first — and on July 26th one of those places will be Boston, Massachusetts. The Google Glass road show is hitting up Boston later this month, camping out at the The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts for one day.

Microsoft's Upcoming Cheap Windows Laptops to Counter Chromebook Threat


Microsoft appears to have no intention to cede the low-end PC market to Google's Chromebook offerings, as it has announced HP, Acer, and Toshiba will soon unveil inexpensive Windows OS-based laptops at $199 and $249 price points.

The news came from Kevin Turner, Microsoft COO, during the firm's Worldwide Partners Conference (via The Verge) held on Monday in Washington D.C.

The cheapest of the announced laptops is HP's 'Stream', with a $199 price tag. Turner did not provide any details on the HP Stream's specifications, but did reveal the low-cost upcoming Acer and Toshiba laptops will feature 15.6-inch and 11.6-inch displays respectively. The Acer laptop will be powered by a 2.16GHz Intel Celeron processor, feature 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB HDD.

Toshiba's inexpensive 11.6-inch Windows laptop offering on the other hand will feature a 32GB SSD onboard, and weigh roughly 1.1kgs.

Turner also added that HP is planning to reveal 7-inch and 8-inch versions of its Stream PCs for a super-low $99 price tag.

"We are going to participate at the low-end," stated Turner in the conference. "We've got a great value proposition against Chromebooks, we are not ceding the market to anyone."
Notably, Acer last week revealed its refurbished C720 Chromebook with a starting price of $349.99, powered by an Intel Core i3 processor instead of a Celeron one.

Similarly, HP also launched its refreshed 11.6-inch Chromebook PC in June with a starting price tag of $249 for the Wi-Fi model.
One of the other threats that Google might be facing in the low-end PC segment is Microsoft reduced licensing fee for Windows OS and Windows Phone OS.

In April, Microsoft said it was giving away its Windows licences to makers of smartphones and small tablets for free in order to make more of an impact on those fast-growing markets and counter the massive success of Google's free Android platform.

In February, the Redmond-based firm was reported to have slashed the price of its Windows 8.1 OS licences by 70 percent, aiming to get a strong hold in the low-cost PC segments. It was noted that the manufacturers will now be charged only $15 instead of the usual fee of $50 to get the Windows 8.1licence and sell it pre-installed on devices costing less than $250.

Windows Phone 8.1 'Cyan' Update Now Rolling Out to Lumia Users


Microsoft Mobile on Tuesday announced roll-out of the 'Cyan' update for Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Lumia Cyan includes the Windows Phone 8.1 Update available to all Windows Phone OEMs as well as certain Lumia-specific features and enhancements.
Starting July 15, Lumia users around the world will start to receive the Cyan update on their devices over-the-air (OTA), though exact availability may vary depending upon their carrier and/ or region.

While the Lumia Cyan update includes several new features for the users globally, Lumia Windows Phone 8 users in US will also get the digital personal assistant Cortana on their devices. The feature is also expected to reach China and the UK soon.
The Windows Phone 8.1 update adds a number of new features to Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices like the ability to use a custom background image for start screen, a third column for custom live tiles, People Hub, a new Action Center to customise settings, app notifications, and more, Wi-Fi Sense to automatically connect to free Wi-Fi hotspots, an updated native Calendar, updated Bing powered device search, an updated Internet Explorer 11 browser that promises a fast and intuitive browser experience.

Lumia users will also benefit from improved Nokia Camera, Creative Studio and Storyteller apps. Nokia Creative Studio 6 (CS6) will now be available directly from the renewed Camera Roll. The company is also offering a free upgrade to global Here Drive+ to Nokia Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720 users along with the Lumia Cyan update.
Specifically for Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon, the Lumia Cyan update will improve the audio quality of videos and the camera capabilities. Additionally, Microsoft's Screen Share technology will allow users to connect both devices to screens like a smart TV or projector.
A new SensorCore SDK Beta for both the devices will enable them to use location data, real-time updates, and more.

Apple's iOS 7 officially hits 90 percent adoption ahead of iOS 8 debut

Ahead of the forthcoming iOS 8 update, expected in the fall, Apple has told developers that iOS 7 is now running on 90 percent of iOS devices using the App Store, indicating a growth rate of about one percent per month. The penetration level of iOS 7 is consequently, like most other iOS versions before it, the most quickly-adopted operating system update ever, on any major platform. The result was garnered from visits to the App Store over a seven-day period that ended on July 13.


The company's previous update in April indicated 87 percent adoption, with 11 percent still on iOS 6. The latter figure has now dropped to nine percent with just two percent running an OS version below iOS 6. The ability of Apple to get users to adopt iOS updates in record numbers has strengthened the developer community, which can target future products to be exclusive to the latest OS at the expected time of launch without fear of wide compatibility issues. Ad marketing firm Chitika had previously posted that iPhones had achieved the 90 percent penetration at the end of May, but the average overall was brought down to 88 percent by the slightly-lower adoption rate of iPad users.

Most users update within the first few weeks of availability -- in December, iOS 7 had achieved 78 percent adoption within its first three months. The next update, iOS 8, will not only improve on existing features in iOS 7 (and share compatibility with most devices, except the iPhone 4), but add new features such as Handoff to OS X 10.10 Yosemite, smart home appliance support, the new Health app, better app integration with system services and much more.

Apple is expected to launch iOS 8 alongside the next generation of iPhone, presumably called the iPhone 6, which is expected to offer at least one model with a larger, 4.7-inch display. Currently, this is expected to happen sometime in September or October. There have been unconfirmed rumors of the company also developing a 5.5-inch model, but to date no solid evidence has been revealed that would indicate such a device is currently in or about to enter mass production.

Satya Nadella’s Vision For A New Microsoft


This morning Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella released an internal memo detailing his vision for the company’s future. The new chief executive used the missive as a way to signal an intentional break with the past.
That break? Sharpening its “devices and services” strategy to focus on “productivity and platforms.”
I spoke with Nadella this morning and asked what the change in language meant. Devices and services, he said, is equivalent to his oft-repeated “cloud-first and mobile-first” moniker. Productivity and platforms is more “specific” regarding what Microsoft can bring to the market that is unique. Other companies can be mobile-first and cloud-first, he added, meaning that while operating according to those principles is likely intelligent, it won’t set Microsoft apart from its competition.
Component to the idea of building something unique is the simple fact that large technology companies are competing across a rising set of services, making them more similar even as they look to set themselves apart.

Productivity and Platforms

Microsoft, Nadella noted, lives in a world of platform heterogeneity, reaffirming his intent to build everywhere.
Nadella wants to do his “best work, even on the iPad.*” This means that non-Windows-based experiences won’t be set at a feature or design deficit when compared to what the company builds for its own platforms. So if Microsoft intends to compete across platforms as other firms do, how can the company differentiate itself, as Nadella indicated was his goal?
“All strategy gets eaten by culture.”
In his view, the company has to build “bar-none [the] best productivity apps.” His point appears to be that Microsoft’s productivity assets are market-leading (correct) and thus one of its competitive advantages is leveraging the Office suite across the platforms that it doesn’t control over others. The success of Office for iPad is a good indication that Nadella, at least in the short-term, is correct.
Nadella is hitting the gas in this regard, with the launch of Office for Android approaching. But productivity is only part of Microsoft’s product line up, so could it provide a company-wide lift? In a sense yes. If Office 365 excels across platforms, it could bring more users into the larger Microsoft services orbit, aligning them more closely with its platforms. And platform momentum brings developers in from the cold.
The opposite is true as well, naturally: Wherever a modern technology company operates at a disadvantage, or fails to complete, it implicitly limits its platform buy-in from consumers and businesses.

The Cloud

Moving to the cloud, it’s worth keeping in mind that the price of cloud storage is quickly trending to zero, spurred in no small part by the price war underway among Microsoft, Google and Amazon.
Will the price of cloud computing itself follow suit? Nadella said that there is a “broad commoditization” of services of that sort and that players in the market will be “aggressive” in their pricing, perhaps even subsidizing some offerings to grind up market share. Nadella did indicate that there will be an “equilibrium” following the pricing conflicts.
It remains to be seen how much prices can decline before they resemble zero. To understand the market, view storage from the perspective of Amazon‘s recently launched cloud storage product that will provide businesses users 200 gigabytes for $5 per user per month. Apply that to all services vended across the Internet in which the operating costs rest with the provider, and not an external party.
Spotify, for example, can’t decrease its price over time to fend off Xbox Music, because its costs are largely externally fixed by record companies. But with cloud storage and computing, the companies that are selling the product have tens of billions in cash and don’t care about short-term margins for these services.
If lowering your price will get more developers through the door building with your tools and on and for your platform, you do it. To paraphrase the old trend cliché: Prices are down and to the left.
Differentiation will come, in Nadella’s vision, from the players who add the most value on top of the more basic services. This mirrors the argument that the basic service layers — compute and storage and so forth — cannot be viewed as differentiation points in the future, current market dynamics aside.
You don’t issue a call to action for change when none is needed.
Finally, Nadella noted that “all strategy gets eaten by culture,” underscoring his letter’s mention that previous methods of business would not be held as sacred at Microsoft. As a company, Microsoft is known for a history of internal conflict. (Dilbert here is canonical.) After decades of stability, Nadella’s point appears to be that Microsoft’s former culture would consume his new vision for the company. As such, the culture itself has to change.
Implicit to Nadella’s note is the point that the Microsoft that existed before, which generated mammoth profits, is not well-fitted to where the market is today and will be in the future. You don’t issue a call to action for change when none is needed.
The document is a decent encapsulation of Nadella’s view of what Microsoft should become: Quicker to market, stronger of product, and competitive everywhere. This is no small challenge. It’s now up to Nadella not only to live up to his own vision, but to convince more than 100,000 employees to do the same.

Amazon India Announces 15-Day Trial Offer for Kindle Ebook Readers


Amazon India, after launching its Kindle Cloud Reader Service in May this year, has introduced a new offer for its Indian ebook readers devices, along with a money-back guarantee. The offer is valid from July 8 till July 23.
According to Amazon, Indian consumers can order the All-New Kindle Paperwhite, All-New Kindle Paperwhite 3G or Kindle 6-inch Wi-Fi from the Amazon India Kindle Trial page, use it for 15 days, and then can return if they are unsatisfied, along with a full refund.
Amazon India also mentions that the money paid by users while ordering the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle 6 devices will be refunded (if users opts for the option) within 3-5 days via a cheque or bank transfer.
While the All-New Kindle Paperwhite and All-New Kindle Paperwhite 3G are priced at Rs. 10,999 and Rs. 13,999 respectively, the Kindle 6-inch Wi-Fi model comes with a price tag of Rs. 5,999.
"We know from our experience around the world, that once the consumers experience the device, they love it! Their apprehensions of eye strain vanish and they quickly realise how it feeds their appetite for reading and how convenient it is to have instant access to any book they want to read or the ability to carry their favourite books with them at all times. We are committed to helping India read more and this is one tiny step towards that," said Devesh Khandelwal, Senior Product manager, Kindle India in a press statement.
Amazon India, as mentioned above, also announced the launch of its Kindle Cloud Reader for India, a free to use app that lets users read books from their Kindle library directly on their computer. Users can access all their books when connected, and can download books from the library for reading offline. Books users are reading start to download automatically, but they can manually pin other books if they want to keep them on the PC whether they've been read recently or not.

Spice Smart Pulse Smartwatch With Voice Calling Launched at Rs. 3,999

Spice Retail has launched its first smartwatch, the Spice Smart Pulse M 9010. The smartwatch features dual-SIM support along with voice calling. Priced at Rs. 4,999 (MRP), the Spice Smart Pulse M 9010 will be available with an MOP of Rs. 3,999 via HomeShop18 from July 11.

The Spice Smart Pulse M 9010 supports 2G dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) and runs the company's proprietary Java-based operating system. It can be paired with Android smartphones via BT notifier app (download apk) offered by Spice. Once paired with a smartphone, users will be able to see notifications, receive calls, view call logs, read and write SMS, remote camera capture and music streaming.

Spice Smart Pulse M 9010 smartwatch features a 1.5-inch touchscreen with a 240x320 pixels resolution. Spice has not specified the smartwatch's processor details.

The Spice Smart Pulse M 9010 smartwatch comes with one digital (1.3-megapixel) camera for taking pictures. It supports an additional 8GB of storage expansion via microSD card, while the built-in storage is not specified by the company.

Connectivity options on Smart Pulse M 9010 include 2G (GPRS/ EDGE), and Bluetooth. It also has audio video player, FM radio and supports Hindi along with English language. The Spice Smart Pulse M 9010 packs a 420mAh Li-Ion battery which is rated for up to 180 minutes of talk time and up to 2 days of standby time.

The smartwatch measures 41.7x53.7x13.6 mm and will be available in Black and Blue colour. Spice is also bundling a free Bluetooth headset and two different colour interchangeable wrist bands with Spice Smart Pulse M 9010.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. T M Ramakrishnan, CEO Devices, Spice Retail Limited said, "The Smart Pulse is innovative for its dual-SIM functionality, utilitarian for its Bluetooth pairability, and fashionable for the changeable wrist bands that come with it, a unique feature for this category."

Grand Theft Auto: Madrid, huh? Sounds exotic! If only it were as real as the people in this amazing and dead accurate fan parody created in live-action.
Zapruder Pictures, based in Madrid, Spain, have used their city as the backdrop for their recreation of the Grand Theft Auto V announcement trailer. Frame for frame, this is dead on accurate with very little help from CG or other tricks.
I mean, yeah, they made a CG jet, but where are they going to find a real one? And who’s gonna fly it kid, you?
Why just a fan made project? Watching this trailer makes the obvious about the real series so much more noticeable: Grand Theft Auto needs to move beyond the borders of North America. There are so many other fascinating cities in the world which could provide gorgeous architecture and very unique crime worlds. London, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Stockholm, Johannesburg, Mexico City. Take your pick.
We went to London in an extremely early GTA; why not again?

Sony And MediaTek Will Team Up For 4LTE Entry-Mid Level Devices In 2015


We took a look a couple weeks back that MediaTek chips would be ending up in four to five Sony smartphones during 2015, now they have narrowed down even more to the MT6732, a 64-bit processor.  Sony plans on using the MediaTek chips in their low to mid-range devices.  Companies like Huawei, Alcatel, Lenovo, Acre, Vivo and OPPO are some of the manufacturers that have used MediaTek chips in their devices.  However, they have been working hard at expanding their use, especially in some higher end phones and Sony is exactly what they need to help them broaden their recognition.
Although Sony already uses the MediaTek MT6589 quad-core in their Sony Xperia C, this will be not only 64-bit, but also LTE compatible. It will also be a quad-core clocked at 1.5GHz.  Certainly not up to par with the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors currently being used in most high-end smartphones, but with the market for low to mid-range phones increasing in most parts of the world, this will be a good thing for Sony.  The MediaTek processors are generally cheaper and Sony can save some money on each one they make and sell. The MediaTek MT6732 chip is based on the ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit processor and also features ARM Mali-T760 graphics. The chip also includes dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, capable of using a 13MP image signal-processor and H.265 Ultra HD video record & playback.  The MediaTek MT6752 octa-core chip is also slatted for release later this year.  
This is terrific because there is just not enough competition in the chipmaking arena – for now Qualcomm rules the kingdom with its Snapdragon series and their chips never seem to disappoint.  Samsung’s Exynos chips need to get the LTE capability embedded for them to really take off – Samsung seems content to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon for its devices in the U.S needing 4G LTE capability, rather than get it fixed so they can use their own chips. NVIDIA hasn’t had a Tegra Chip out in a popular device for a long time. Competition forces innovation, and while Qualcomm does keep moving forward with their Snapdragon line, it would be interesting to see if the 64-bit chips would have arrived on the scene quicker, had there been any true competition. Maybe this move with Sony and their 64-bit chips and soon to have octa-core processor will start them on a journey to better recognition and a better reputation.

BeamIt Wants to Change The Way We Share Photos


Right now, messaging apps are one of the fastest growing categories in the Android and iOS app marketplaces, as every developer tries to become the next WhatsApp. From stickers and emoticons to free voice and video calls, they offer pretty much everything people need for communication. In such a crowded market, is there really any space for one more messaging app? The team that developed Cooliris (an app that lets you view all your social feeds' images in one place), feels so.
The company has launched BeamIt, a free "visual messaging" app that aims to add context to photo sharing on iOS, with Android and Web versions "coming soon". We got early access to the app, and came away largely impressed, and while we still have a couple of reservations about the concept, there's no denying that the app's philosophy and design are interesting.


BeamIt has common features such as comments, likes and sharing photos with private groups, but the difference is in the design. BeamIt links comments and conversations to photos and makes all of these feel like one thread as opposed to separate events. If you've ever been in a messaging group, you probably know how confusing it can get sometimes.
For instance, someone shares five photos in a group of 10 people. Immediately nine people start commenting about different photos and often it's hard to decipher who is speaking about which photo. BeamIt lets you select any one photo from a big batch and comment on it or comment on all at once. This helps provide context to each comment. You can long-press any photo to comment, like, share or save photos to the camera roll.
Another nice touch to the app is the way it handles multiple photos. We selected 36 photos on an iPhone and saw them appear in a side-scrolling row under the message box. You can take a look at the photos by scrolling sideways and remove any of these before sending. Once you send a large number of photos, they appear in two rows and you can scroll sideways to take a look at them all.

This works for two reasons - one is that you can send a large number of photos in one go (most messaging apps limit that number) and the second is you don't have to keep scrolling up or down to read messages every time someone posts many photos. Therefore, scrolling up and down will show you different conversations around photos, and scrolling horizontally will let you look at the various pictures being talked about in each conversation.
On an iPhone, the advantage is already apparent, but the iPad is where BeamIt shines. The app has an excellent three-column layout - one column lists all the conversation threads, the second shows text and the third shows photos. Once again, a batch of photos sent together can be seen by scrolling sideways, which has a neat slide-out animation on the iPad. If a person comments on a photo, a line links that part of the conversation to the photo, making conversations easy to follow. The way BeamIt marries text to photos is impressive.

"All photos are uploaded in full-resolution but the resolution of photos BeamIt downloads depends on your device" he says. "If you're using an iPad 2, the app will download slightly lower quality images as opposed to an iPad with Retina Display."

If you delete a message or photo from a conversation, it gets removed from all recipients' devices. This "unsend" feature is quite nice, but the app doesn't explain this. This means that some users may inadvertently delete photos without knowing that it will get removed from everyone else's devices too.

iPhone 6 to Launch on September 25, 5.5-Inch Model Named iPhone Air: Report


Another day and another iPhone 6 rumour. This time a report out of China details an astonishing new launch date for the next iPhone from Apple, ahead of most dates in previous leaks. The report is accompanied with purported pricing details, as well as the name of the anticipated larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 variant - iPhone Air.
The report citing industry sources claims Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 on September 15, which falls on a Monday, while retail availability will begin on September 25, which falls on a Thursday.
Apple traditionally starts sales of new iPhone models on a Friday to capture the weekend crowd, so the dates seem a little fishy. Previous leaks (including a purported internal communication from a German telecom carrier) had indicated a more credible launch date of September 19, which happens to be Friday.
According to the China.com report (via GforGames), China will also be amongst the first countries to receive the iPhone. The report also details the pricing, which matches previous leaks, claiming the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 (32GB) will cost CNY 5,288 (roughly Rs. 50,800), while the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 (16GB) will be priced at CNY 5,998 (roughly Rs. 57,600). This would also imply the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 (32GB) is cheaper than the current 4-inch iPhone 5s (16GB), which costs CNY 5,300.
The same report claims the much-rumoured 5.5-inch iPhone 6 variant will be called the iPhone Air, following the naming scheme of the latest, largest iPad. The report adds that China Mobile and China Unicom, Apple's carriers in the country, have begun field testing the iPhone 6 on their networks.

Recently, Japanese daily Nikkei had posted two alleged images of the rumoured 4.7-inch iPhone 6 dummy model, side by side with an iPhone 5s. The leaked images corroborate what's has been widely expected based on earlier leaks, that the next iPhone will house the power button on the right panel of the device, instead on the top panel seen on current iPhone models. It also seen to feature the Touch ID sensor.

Previously, another Chinese report indicated the alleged 5.5-inch iPhone 6 variant will feature a 128GB storage variant. The report further claims that the 128GB storage variant will be limited to the bigger variant of the rumoured iPhone 6, and the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will offer the conventional 64GB as its maximum storage variant, while the 16GB variant will be dumped for both models.

An earlier report citing a research note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggested that the alleged 5.5-inch iPhone 6 would sport OIS (optical image stabilisation) for the rear camera. The report further claimed that the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will not come with OIS.

The Cupertino-based company has also been rumoured to be testing a higher screen resolution of 960x1704 pixels on at least one of the two iPhone models likely to debut this year.
