Android Kit Kat Adoption Reaches 13.6% According To June Distribution Numbers

The numbers are in. You know the ones I’m talking about, the percentage numbers of how many users are on each version of Android to date. Prior to these numbers being out Kit Kat was reported as being on around 9% of all devices worldwide, but the Android monthly distribution number have just been released by Google and it looks like Kit Kat has gotten a little bump in the adoption rate department. Kit Kat is now accounted for on 13.6% of all Android devices globally, with Jelly Bean as a whole seeing a drop to 58.4% of all Android device globally.  The biggest portion of Android users is still on Jelly Bean 4.1, with the number of users still on that version sitting at 29%.

What’s surprising is that Honey Comb is no longer on the list at all so does this mean that every single device that has ever ran Honey Comb has now been upgraded including the Google TV devices? No not really. What we’re actually seeing is all the data that Google collected for Android distribution that sits above 0.1%. Taking that into consideration, Honey Comb seems to account for less than 0.1% percent of Android users globally which is why we don’t and won’t see it on the charts anymore. The most recent version prior to Android 4.4 Kit Kat is Jelly Bean 4.3 and users on this version still account for 10.3% of all Android users globally. The data collected is comprised over a week long stint, with the data collection ending today, which makes it fall right in line with the recent updates to Kit Kat that devices have been getting, however there are still a number of devices on the waiting list to get bumped up from 4.3.

All versions besides Kit Kat are decreasing which means Google is working hard to upgrade everyone that they can, even if the adoption rate is a little slow still. With some devices still waiting to get their Kit Kat updates this number should end up rising even more the next time this report comes out, and for those of us that are already on Kit Kat, be on the lookout for the update to 4.4.3 which has just started hitting devices in the last day.

North Korea’s “Arirang” smartphone is indeed a copy of a cheap Chinese brand

It is one thing to make a cheap
knock-off of an established brand,
but making a copy of an ultra-low-end
device just does not make sense,
unless you are North Korea. North Korea’s Arirang AS1201
smartphone, a “home grown” triumph
of the technological prowess of the
DPRK.
The device is indeed a copy of the
Chinese branded Uniscope U1201. Both
are Android powered handsets. The
Chinese brand costs about $100 in
Beijing which may seem like a deal,
even for a low end device, but after
you see the specs you will still probably
think otherwise.
The Uniscope U1201 is a dual-SIM, 3G
device with 4GB of expandable
storage, 768MB of RAM, a 540x960
“4.1-4.9-inches” display (we will say
4.3-inches), 8MP camera and a
1600mAh battery. The CPU is a dual-
core, Spreadtrum chip at
“1.2-1.4GHz.”
It is a safe bet that the North Korean
counterpart has similar, or even
lesser specifications than the
Uniscope. There is still speculation
that the device is made in China and
reboxed in North Korea. Then again,
we assume nothing. We will not even
assert that the AS1201 has cellular
connectivity, it is North Korea after
all. We shared information about a
tablet offered up in the DPRK that did
not even have Wi-Fi connectivity,
because, who needs the internet when
you got the dear leader?
Speaking of which, the AS1201 is
certainly featuring a vast array of
approved apps and media from the dear
leader. No doubt Google Play is no
where to be found, but it is not out of
the realm of possibility there is some
type of basketball app featuring Dennis
Rodman included with the device.

iOS 7 experience on Android via iLauncher

Not all Android users give a hoot about
iOS 7, but we know there are a few of
you out there that may be a little
intrigued about Apple’s new operating
system. We have come across an
Android app called ‘iLauncher’, which
gives you the iOS 7 experience on your
Android.
This app is fairly decent, there is one
feature within iLauncher iOS 7 users
would love Apple to add to its next
update, a few iOS 7 users experienced
motion sickness when using the new
operating system, but this Android app
allows users to disable the zooming
function that makes iPhone users a
little sick.
iLauncher provides a similar experience
as iOS 7, same design with a few added
extras. Once you have installed this app
your entire Home screen will look like
Apple’s UI.
Main iLauncher Android app features
include smooth scrolling, the ability to
uninstall apps from the Home screen,
you can edit exit mode by pressing the
back button, support 5 rows mode just
like the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C. The apps
have rounded corners and gloss
effects; it also includes a dock bar

ability to add widgets to the Android
Home screen, shortcuts can be added
still.
Not sure why Android users would want
to add iOS 7 to their devices, but hey
we are sure someone would like to give

Intex Cloud X3 smartphone with dual-core processor launched for Rs. 3,790

Intex Technologies has launched an entry level smartphone, the Cloud X3 in India for Rs. 3,790. The Intex Cloud X3 features a 3.5-inch display and boasts of MiraVision technology. 

The device is powered by a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor coupled with 256MB RAM. It has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. The Intex Cloud X3 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It comes with 115MB of internal memory that is expandable up to 32GB through microSD card. Other key features include dual-SIM functionality with GSM+GSM support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, gravity sensors, video recorder, audio recorder, motion sensors, and GPS. 

The Intex Cloud X3 comes with a 1450mAh battery that the company claims can give 6 hours of talktime and 200 hours of standby time. The handset has been launched in two colours, White and Black. Commenting on the launch Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, GM-Mobility Division, Intex Technologies Ltd said, "The feature phone market in India has matured and there is a subsequent growth in the smartphone category. 

Building on this burgeoning market, Intex offers its latest smartphone Cloud X3 that is especially designed to meet the need of entry level users who would like to migrate to a more sophisticated mobile experience". Intex claims that it is targeting a revenue growth of more than 400 percent this fiscal from the mobile vertical with smartphones being the driver. 

The company also plans to extend the entry level Smartphone range to 10 models by September 2013. The Intex Cloud X3 comes with an all new MediaTek MT6572 processor. Dr. Finbarr Moynihan, General Manager - Business Development, MediaTek Inc said, "MediaTek continues to drive the democratization of smartphones by re- defining the entry level segment, moving the baseline to dual-core processing with the MT6572.
