Microsoft is aiming to deliver a ‘technology preview’ of Windows 9 operating system codenamed ‘Threshold’ on September 30, according to a report published by The Verge.
Microsoft is likely to hold a special press event, especially for developers, to detail the changes that will be incorporated in the Windows 8 successor.
The preview will give developers a first look at the new mini Start Menu in Windows 9, alongside the removal of the Charms bar feature and several UI changes, the report said.
Earlier reports suggest that the full-fledged commercial launch, however, will not see the light of the day till April 2015.
Microsoft knows that Windows 8 was a nonstarter for many users, which is why it’s apparently designed Windows 9 with the desktop user much more in mind. The company’s efforts to appease desktop PC users was seen in Windows 8.1 — when they added back a Start button and the option of booting up to desktop — and it’s only going further down that road with its next major release.
The Verge report further stressed that the September event will only be headlining the overview of key new features of the upcoming operating system, for the developers and enthusiasts.
